Ashton pupil thanks teachers

Ashton International College pupil Steffan Hansen obtained eight distinctions in the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).

He obtained distinctions in Afrikaans (A Level), biology (A Level), chemistry (As Level), computer science (As Level), English (As Level), Afrikaans (As Level), biology (As Level) and geography (IGCSE Level).

When asked how he managed the excellent results, he said: “I worked hard and I was blessed to have subjects that I enjoyed and found easy to do.”

Hansen said that physical science was his most challenging subject, one for which he received 76 per cent.

He said it was not always easy balancing school work and extramural activities.

The Ebotse resident used his father’s motto of “work hard and play hard” to get him through his studies, along with cycling, which he did recreationally.

Hopping on his bicycle served as a means of relaxation from his school schedule.

Hansen will read towards a BSc degree in agriculture at the University of Stellenbosch.

“I am very excited to do entomology and to learn more about insects,” he said.

“It will be very difficult to be away from the people I love, but my parents will come and visit during the school holidays.”

Hansen is extremely grateful for the support he received from teachers at Ashton International College.

“I just want to congratulate all my friends who also did well; I just got lucky and got a little extra,” he joked.
