Drought-stricken areas need your water

While several areas of the country are experiencing a drought, Benoni residents are encouraged to lessen the plight.

Operation Hydrate, which was initially started by the Gauteng Crime Intelligence Network (GCIN), seeks to provide relief to drought-stricken Colesberg, Aliwal North and Senekal, by donating water to residents of those areas.

Head of the GCIN, Reza Patel, told the City Times the operation was started six days ago, with 25 000l already being donated at the Benoni collection point alone.

The first 8 000l has found its way to the affected areas.

“As human beings, one must be involved in saving the other,” said Patel.

There are six other drop-off locations in Gauteng.

People may drop off water at the Benoni drop-off point, at the corner of Russel Street and Harpur Avenue, at 8am, noon and 4pm.

Water must be of drinking quality and preferably bottled.
