A breakdown of Benoni schools’ 2015 matric results

Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, has declared the 2015 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations “free, fair and credible”.

The national pass rate for 2015 stands at 70.7 per cent – a drop compared to 75.8 per cent in 2014.

Gauteng’s overall pass rate is 84.2 per cent.

Below is a breakdown of Benoni schools’ performance, in alphabetical order:

  •  Belvedere School

2015 pass rate: 90 per cent

2014 pass rate: 100 per cent

Matric pupils: 37

Principal Hannes du Plessis’s comment: “We are somewhat disappointed that we didn’t achieve 100 per cent pass rate, but we are very happy to have been able to give so many children matric certificates.”

Principal Jake Ceronio’s comment: “We are very happy with the 100 per cent pass rate and the high percentage of pupils who have the opportunity for further study. Deputy headmistress Shamla Ramaya’s comment: “The 25 per cent of progressions can be attributed as the cause for the drop in the results. The results were better than we expected and we are looking forward to this year since the progression rule has been changed by the education department.”

Headmistress Kennia Plaskitt’s comment: “I am glad they did as well as they did. Mathematics and science are difficult for many pupils and they should not be forced (by parents) to take those subjects. However, overall I am happy – my staff worked hard to achieve these results.”
