iThemba ends off 16 Days with a bang

Women were encouraged to speak out and fight against domestic and sexual violence at a day of awareness organised by iThemba Rape and Trauma Support Centre.

The day was held at iThemba’s headquarters on the corner of Kimbolton Street and Woburn Avenue, in Western Extension.

The event was organised as part of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, which ran from November 25 until December 10.

The attendees were addressed by various speakers, including the police, iThemba staff, field experts and women who had directly experienced abuse or rape.

Several musicians provided entertainment at the event, which was also attended by a number of children, a key demographic in iThemba’s awareness campaigns.

Rose Maja, public relations officer of iThemba said events such as these are necessary to educate the public about sexual violence and its impact on victims.
