Junior tennis players battle it out in tournament

The Gauteng East Junior Christmas Round Robin Tournament took place at the Gauteng East Tennis Centre, in Lakefield, from December 10 to 12.

The tournament saw 14 players pull together, with the aim of grooming the children’s tennis skills.

Using the round robin system, each player got to play against each of the others.

Players included children from six to 16 years of age.

“We are giving the players the platform to elevate themselves, to compete in more competitive tennis,” said Ken Smith, president of the Gauteng East Tennis Centre.

The winner of the boys’ singles was Isak Kleyhans, with Dylan Queen as the runner-up.

The winner of the girls’ singles was Kyla Gobby, with Kim Fine as the runner-up.

In the doubles, Kleyhans and Queen were the winners, with Evan Zeelie and Kyla Gobby as runners-up.

A prize-giving was held at the centre on Saturday, December 12, for all the players.
