Still fighting for life

Erica Stone is still alive, three months after a doctor told her she had only a few days to live.

The Springs resident’s partner, Hendrehet, told the City Times on Monday that she has defied all odds.

The couple made headlines when they wed in the reception area of the Life the Glynnwood Hospital, on September 15.

Staffers at the hospital heard the pair wanted to get married, so they organised a wedding in six hours.

What resulted was a ceremony with all the traditional bells and whistles; including a purple wedding dress and veil, cup cakes, guests and a priest.

On Monday, Hendrehet said her partner’s condition had not changed and that she is still in pain.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer five years ago and last received chemo therapy on August 27.

“It is a miracle that she left the hospital and is still alive,” said Hendrehet.

“We are all just amazed.

“She is such a strong woman, she just lives day by day.”

The medical aid stopped paying two months ago for home care two months ago, as Erica exceeded her life expectancy.
