The incident occurred in the parking lot of a shop on Pioneer Drive.
The victim and two of his friends were in the parking lot when another vehicle with tinted windows arrived.
According to Const Zunickha Essakjee, Benoni SAPS communication officer, a suspect got out of the second vehicle and shot at the victim and his friends.
“One of the friends of the victim shot back at the suspect, after which he got back in his car and drove off,” said Essakjee.
“The victim was shot twice in the upper body.”
The wounded man was taken to hospital.
A case of attempted murder was opened at the Benoni Police Station.
No arrests had been made at the time of publishing.
