Man awakes as three gunmen enter home

A 58-year-old man was tied up in a Mackenzie Park home this morning, while three armed robbers ransacked the house.

Const Zunickha Essakjee, Benoni SAPS communications officer, said the man was alone in the house on Hamerkop Avenue when the gunmen forced their way through a sliding door.

“He (the victim) was awakened by his bedroom door opening at around 3am,” said Essakjee.

“He saw one man pointing a gun at him.”

One of the intruders tied the victim’s hands with a bandage found in the home.

“As he tied him, his two accomplices came into the room and put a handkerchief in his mouth,” added Essakjee.

The gunmen, all armed with .9mm handguns, ransacked the house.

During this, the victim managed to untie himself, which was noticed by one of the men.

“They saw this and used the bandage to tie his hands and feet and instructed him to lie on his stomach,” added Essakjee.

The men fled on foot with jewellery, a TV set and cellphones.

The victim untied himself and alerted authorities.

No arrests have been made and a case of house robbery has been opened.
