These are a few of the cats and dogs up for adoption at the Benoni SPCA.
This dangerous duo can both stand upright for longer than any dog should be able to. Stertjie and Stompie are both around 10 months old and Doberman-cross breeds.
To adopt one of these pets, or to have a look at the other animals available for adoption, call the society on 011 894 2814/5, or visit them at 3 Klein Street, Lakefield.
The SPCA also urges members of the public to look for their missing pets at the kennels, because the society has been taking in many stray animals, which owners do not come to look for at the SPCA.
Question: What do your names actually mean?
Stertjie: Honestly,… we’re dogs, we have no clue what human names mean, duhh.
Question: Stompie, where did you live before the SPCA took you in?
Stompie: We were surrendered by our family. They had to move to the Cape, to a complex.
Unfortunately complexes don’t allow us, and I don’t blame them, we would make a mess.
Question: What are your plans for the future?
Stompie: That depends. First we’ll have to get adopted, I think only after that can we decide what our next move will be, probably chase a few cats or some other dog stereotypes you can think of.
Question: I noticed you guys are good at standing upright. Can you do any other tricks?
Stertjie: That’s rich. Why don’t you buy me a rubber duck and I’ll sniff out some drugs for you?
Stompie: Sorry about him, he watches too much Garfield. I can’t guarantee it, but we are both only 10 months old, which means we can still learn a lot of tricks, if our new humans are willing to go to the trouble.
This boy is called Dexter, though he bears no resemblance to the TV characters. Instead he is very friendly and playful.
This is an eight-week-old grey and white kitten. He looks more menacing than he is.
Zoe’s yellow eyes and black and grey fur make for a beautiful combination. She is about one year old.
After playing around a bit, these two girls make peace for the camera.
Meet Kido, a three-month-old Tabby cat. He does not move around a lot, but shows affection in his own way.
This cross- dachshund was eager to roll over for some attention. He is nameless, but is a beautiful dog and will be a loving pet.
This little girl is a stray fox terrier. She’ll crawl straight into your heart and light up your life.
This black beauty is nameless, but she is very energetic and needs space to run and play.
A pair of ginger and white kittens show their affection for each other.
Tinkerbell is a dachshund-cross-miniature Dobermann. She is two years old and sprightly, with a protective temperament.
This little kitten shares the kennel, and seems satisfied with the current social climate, but will need more space and care soon.
This exquisite grey and white cat is several months old and a true beauty.
This is an alert Jack Russel, whose ears are upright every few seconds. She is slightly scared of newcomers, but quickly warms up to someone who gives her enough attention.
A furry Pekingese, who is not afraid to jump up at visitors. He is fairly young and still has a lot of joy to give.
These kittens are very curious and playful and need good homes to go to. They’re all female and only a few weeks old.
This boy has no name, but can’t wait to find a warm home where he can run around.
“Baby’s got blue eyes.” This boy is a cream-coloured cat, who is very loving and kinetic.
