Relax with a good meal at Cherrylane

Located on the corner of 14th Avenue and Fifth Street, Cherrylane is surrounded by a beautiful garden filled with chirping birds – which is perfect for a summer evening.

Tracey van Gessel owns the café along with her sister and brother-in-law, David and Chantel Wright.

The family said they run the restaurant on their passion for food and hospitality.

Cherrylane first opened its doors in May 2012, as a small coffee shop which offered breakfasts and lunches.

But today it has expanded its location and its menu.

I visited the café on a warm Friday evening.

I was immediately greeted by a friendly waitress who helped me to choose a starter.

I settled for stuffed black mushrooms – stuffed with a tomato and onion relish, topped with feta and grilled to perfection.

The mushrooms were perfect, with a tantalising and warm flavour, which satisfied my hunger.

For the main course I chose to try the Lamb Shank, which is cooked slowly, to enhance the flavour.

It was delicious, especially because I paired it with a glass of wine.

The lamb was perfectly cooked.

For dessert I settled for a chocolate mousse, which was by far the best part of my dining experience.

The mousse was not too sweet and had just the correct amount of chocolate.

It was paired with a thick cream and drizzled with Amarula.

I truly enjoyed my dining experience at Cherrylane, and I shared my approval with Tracey.

She said Cherrylane is full of flavours, as well as personal service and customer satisfaction.

“We know our customers, which gives us an advantage,” said Tracey.

The gourmet café also offers regular wine-tasting events every six weeks.

Next year, they will offer regular whisky and brandy-tasting events.

Both events are open to any person with a passion for the best beverages.

“We also offer venues for conferences, baby showers, weddings and 21st birthday parties,” said Tracey.

The menus that are offered can be tailored for any event.

Cherrylane also offers seafood, sandwiches, breakfast, salads, seasonal dishes and many more.
