Woman bitten during failed Goedeburg robbery

A woman was bitten on her chin and arm when two men tried to rob her and her sister on Thursday, November 19.

The incident occurred at a complex in Goedeburg, at 12.45pm.

The two women were on their way home in their car, when the driver noticed a silver SUV driving behind her.

After she had stopped at the gate of the complex, she noticed two men with balaclavas on, approaching her car.

She sped into the complex, but was followed by the suspects.

One of the men smashed the window on the driver’s side with a hammer and demanded money.

“The other suspect was at the passenger side and bit the woman on her chin and arm,” said Brig Poobalan Subbiah, acting commander of the Benoni SAPS cluster.

“He then grabbed her handbag and the rings from her finger.”

According to Subbiah, there was R6 000 cash in the handbag.

A neighbour saw the comotion and fired a shot with his revolver.

Two other shots were fired, though Subbiah could not confirm who had fired them.

The suspects ran and jumped over the gate, got into the SUV and drove off.

A case of attempted robbery and damage to property was opened.

No suspects had been arrested at the time of publishing.
