Water restored to Rynfield

After about 16 hours without water, Rynfield's supply was restored following the repair of a burst pipe.

The pipe, on the corner of Vlei and Trumpet roads, could only be worked on after water had been switched off.

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) spokesperson Themba Gadebe said at 4.40pm that the pipe had been repaired and water to much of Rynfield was restored.

“Since it was not a planned interruption, but done because of the immediate need to fix the pipe, residents could not be notified in time,” said Gadebe.

“We did put a warning of the break in supply on the greeting message of calls logged at the customer care centre.”

Additionally, he said the Benoni suburb was one of six included in the warning of critical water levels, published by the City Times on November 10.

Gadebe said this warning should have been sufficient to keep people vigilant of water supply problems, especially with water restrictions also implemented recently.
