A solution might be in the pipeline after Rynfield repair

The only permanent solution to the problem of bursting pipes in Benoni is the replacement of most of the water supply system.

This is according to a representative from Lucazi Civil, who was on scene at the repair of a burst pipe in Rynfield, on Wednesday, November 18.

Much of Rynfield was left without water, as it had been switched off the previous evening to allow for the repairs to be undertaken.

The pipe, on the corner of Vlei and Trumpet roads, had already been repaired at the weekend, but it didn’t hold for long.

Another team was sent in to fix the problem, which could only be done if the pipe was emptied of water.

The team was on site on November 18, welding the pipe and determined to fix it properly.

The representative from Lucazi, a company subcontracted by Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM), said they were designing a new system to replace the old infrastructure.

“We want to find a permanent solution with council, but don’t want the area to be without water for too long, so we are putting in a temporary measure now,” said the person, who did not want to be identified.

The representative further said water to Rynfield should be restored by 2pm on November 18.

EMM could not confirm this and said water would likely be off until late, but was unable to specify a time.
