International disaster day acknowledged

The City of Ekurhuleni hosted the International Day of Disaster Awareness event in Etwatwa, on November 7.

The event is held annually to commemorate and acknowledge efforts made by countries, governments and communities towards disaster reduction.

This year’s focus was on traditional, indigenous and local knowledge, which can complement modern science.

Members of the public were also given an opportunity to learn safety measures, such as handling fire and gas and saving water.
