Business robberies increase

Police are warning the public to be careful, following an increased number of business robberies committed in Northmead and the Benoni CBD.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said robbers have been scouting potential targets, under the pretence of being customers or asking for directions.

“We are urging people to always be aware of their surroundings, especially as we approach the busiest time of the year where criminals will go to extreme lengths to get quick cash,” said Sekele.

“We are also pleading with the public not to play the hero.

“Try not to be difficult; cooperate with the suspect as the property can be replaced, but not your life.”

She said cases have also been opened where people have been robbed after withdrawing large sums of cash from banks.

People must call 10111 in a crime situation, after which they may contact their sector vehicle.
