Intersection finally fixed

After motorists endured three weeks of driving in harsh conditions, the intersection of Great North and High roads has been resurfaced.

Late last week, contractors were working at the intersection to restore the road and safeguard it against potholes and the crumbling intersection.

Pomona resident Jakobus Jonker, who uses the intersection daily, said he noticed men working at the intersection on October 25.

Jonker mentioned that the road was gone and that it was a mess.

“Cars are damaged, especially when the robot is green and you’re coming at high speed,” Jonker said at the time.

Due to there being no warning signs, many vehicles were damaged before the road was fixed.

“I saw drivers parking on the side of the road due to their tyres being damaged, and broken car rims,” he said.

Ward 23’s Clr André du Plessis is happy about the repair.

“I’m glad it has been fixed although this should have been finished a long time ago,” said du Plessis.

Du Plessis said that even though the problem was fixed, he has received calls from residents asking where they can report the damage sustained to their vehicles due to the poor road.

He mentions how more damage was done than good because the problem was not addressed in the correct manner, especially the effect the road works had on the motorists’ vehicles.

He emphasised the importance of making sure that all lines of communication are open to the public and that the public is informed about what is happening in and around their community.
