Princess Charlene’s foundation supports Charity Mile

Benoni’s “renowned daughter” and a great sport enthusiast at heart, Her Serene Highness (HSH) Princess Charlene of Monaco, is again showing her support for the Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile race, on October 31.

She will again participate in the annual charity race with the aid of The Princess Charlene Foundation, by endorsing the race through her name and that of her foundation.

Princess Charlene will throw her weight behind the less popular horses in the race (she tends to back the underdog in life) as she is a great believer is charitable work, and this is one of many ways her foundation supports local and international charity movements and initiatives.

On the day, a special race will be held in honour of the princess.

Through her foundation, Princess Charlene is still very involved with the Gugulesizwe Primary School, in Daveyton, which she adopted two years ago, and the school keeps her informed of their progress.

Her foundation also participates in a lot of activities and initiatives with the South African Rugby Union, to promote junior rugby tournaments between South African and Monaco.

On the day of the race, as usual, each runner in the Charity Mile will be publicly represented by a celebrity and a media partner.

The latter tradition has made this race day one of the most popular on the calendar, as it adds a lot of glitz and glamour and also gives members of the public a chance to rub shoulders with famous people, who they usually only see on television screens.

The day will also feature two lucrative Sales races, the R2.5-m Emperors Palace Ready To Run Cup, over 1 400m (Cape Thoroughbred Sales), and the R2.15-m Bloodstock SA Ready To Run Cup, over 1 400m.

Top class horses will be appearing in races like the Grade Three R250 000 Graham Beck Stakes over 1 400m, the Grade Three R250 000 Yellowwood Handicap over 1 800m, the Grade Three R250 000 Starling Stakes over 1 400m, the Listed R150 000 Golden Loom Handicap over 1 000m and the Listed R150 000 Java Handicap.
