Kabelo hopes to inspire young women through Miss SA

A Benoni beauty has grabbed her seat among the top 25 entrants in the Miss South Africa 2016 pageant.

The former Liverpool Secondary School pupil, Kabelo Nontokozo Mashiane, hopes to make it as a top 12 finalist.

The 21-year-old Daveyton resident said her passion for modelling and teaching motivated her to enter the competition.

“I love modelling and I want to use my skill and the Miss SA platform to serve women of South Africa and give back to the community,” she said.

Last year, Kabelo entered the Mr and Miss Benoni pageant and was crowned second princess.

She is affiliated to the Rampage Modelling Agency and is currently being trained as a modelling teacher.

“I love teaching and believe teaching passes on knowledge to younger generations,” said Kabelo.

She added that receiving the confirmation phone call about her being among the top 25, on September 18, was the best moment of her life.

“I was excited and emotional, not everyone gets this opportunity,” she said.

“It means a lot to be part of the top 25 and I have realised that your background does not hamper your success.”

For the next few weeks, Kabelo and the other semi-finalists are attending extensive workshops at the Maslow Hotel, in Sandton.

They are being taught how to carry themselves, how to react to the media, how to dress and to prepare for interviews.

The top 12 finalists will be announced in November, and the Miss South Africa final judging will take place in March.
