She will continue inspiring

Daveyton resident Zodwa "Barbara" Vakele was one of 10 finalists in this year's Miss Deaf South Africa pageant.

She competed for the title at a gala event, on October 2, at the Pretoria Barnyard Theatre.

Each finalist performed a talent during the pageant, such as reading poetry, singing to music, modelling, dancing or playing a musical instrument.

Zodwa performed a dance.

Even though she didn’t place in a category on the night, the 26-year-old will continue to encourage younger generations to have self-esteem and purse their dreams.

The gala event was attended by the Premier of the Western Cape, Helen Zille.

The judging panel included Lauren Price (First Miss Deaf SA in 1997), Armand du Plessis (current Mr South Africa) and Riana Mooi (current Mrs Globe).
