Entire complex left high and dry

Low water pressure is an everyday hassle for the residents of the Oakwood Complex, in Neethling Road, Western Extension.

According to Ashraf Patel, chairman of the complex, the problem has existed for years.

“During the day, the pressure is very low until about 9pm or 10pm,” he said.

“We have been corresponding with council, but they blamed Rand Water; when we spoke to Rand Water, they pointed us back to council.

“Council advised us to get JoJo tanks installed in the complex, but why should the residents pay for a solution, when it’s council’s responsibility to fix?”

Patel added that the complex had had a booster pump about two years ago, but it failed within several months, in his opinion due to the low water pressure.

The City Times recently reported on low and non-existent water pressure in Brentwood Park, Benoni AH, Rynfield AH, Benoni Small Farms and Fairleads.

Clr Stefanie Kruger (Ward 24) said the infrastructure in these areas is old and wasn’t upgraded despite new developments being approved over the past few years.

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality was approached for comment, but none had been received at the time of publishing.
