Sisters lose everything in home fire

iThemba Rape and Trauma Support Centre is urging the public to assist two Mayfield sisters, who lost everything in a fire.

The fire destroyed their home in the early hours of September 7.

The two siblings, Thuli (17) and Phumzile Mahlangu (14), had been staying alone since their mother passed away and the father went missing several years ago.

A case of a missing person had been reported to the police, but the father hasn’t been found yet.

“The neighbours are assisting with food, since the girls don’t receive any assistance from the government, as they do not have birth certificates,” said Sandile Mafu, centre manager at iThemba.

“The case was reported to our satellite office at the Putfontein Victim Empowerment Centre.”

iThemba is asking the community to assist with a bed, clothes, food, shoes (sizes four and five) and blankets.

All donations can be delivered to iThemba’s offices on the corner of Woburn Avenue and Kimbolton Street, in Western Extension.

For more information, contact iThemba’s office on 011 422 4107.
