Etwatwa gang members to be sent to special camp

Members of the Etwatwa One Vision Lover (OVL) gang will be sent to a special youth camp which will highlight the dangers of gang life and drugs.

The camp will run for two weeks and members of the gang will be taken to visit a prison to show them the consequences of being involved in criminal activities.

Police are still searching for members, including the leader of the gang, after three teenagers were burnt alive and another survived an attempted necklacing last week as residents took a stand against gangsterism.

Gauteng Safety and Security spokesperson, Ndivhuho Gadisi, said on September 21, the MEC of Safety and Security, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, had a frank discussion with the OVL gang, their parents and community members in Etwatwa.

“All parties agreed to stop committing crime and carrying out mob justice attacks,” said Gadisi.

“It was also agreed that the community will hold regular prayer meetings and they will hold an imbizo at the end of September.”

Gadisi continued to say that raids are currently being conducted at schools in Etwatwa with the hope of finding weapons and drugs.

“These raids will continue until the end of the term to ensure the gang’s activities come to an end.”
