Cleaning up Farrarmere

Ten bottle tops, nine sweet wrappers, eight straws, seven food containers, six cans, five bottles, four milk cartons, three paper items, two plastic bottles and one plastic packet.

These are the items members and volunteers of the Litter Bugs aimed to collect at their clean-up in the park around the Farrarmere Gardens, on Friday, September 18.

The Litter Bugs was started on Mandela Day, last year, and members meet every third Saturday of the month, at a different area in Benoni, to rid the location of litter.

Sam Choles, of the Litter Bugs, said people are keen to pick up litter when they are in a big group.

There were prizes for teams that collected the items on the lists on September 18.

A total of 40 bags of recyclables and refuse was collected on the day.

The clean-up coincided with Clean-up SA Week, which runs from September 14 to 19.
