Charity golf day was ‘electric’

Even the most seasoned golfer could not have asked for a better golfing experience on Wednesday, last week.

The weather was warm, the atmosphere was “electric” and the best part: all 28 four-balls (112 players) were teeing off for charity.

The Benoni City Times Buco Rietpan Charity Golf Day was held at the pristine Ebotse Links golf course on September 9.

Golfers came out in their numbers to throw their weight behind this year’s charities: Kids Haven and the SA Guide Dogs Association.

The golfers teed off for a shotgun start in a betterball format.

The successful day on the course (depending on whom you ask) was topped off with a prize-giving handled by witty MC Paul Rotherham.

All the golfers received a prize and enjoyed a delicious meal of chicken pie.

Rough figures suggest the day raised in excess of R50 000.

The branch manager of Buco Rietpan, Christo de Klerk, who was the main sponsor of the event, said he had an absolute blast on the golf day.

“I’ve been to a lot of golf days, but this one took the cake – it was awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome,” said de Klerk.

“… The atmosphere was electric.

“It felt like family and there was such a sense of belonging.”

He said the day was excellently organised and he looks forward to being part of next year’s function.
