Princess Charlene’s grandmother dies at 94

Sylvia Wittstock, the paternal grandmother of Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene of Monaco, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, at 4pm at Rynpark Old Age Home in Benoni.

September 16 is also believed to be Sylvia’s grandson’s birthday, Sean Wittstock, who is the third child of Mike and Lynette Wittstock and Princess Charlene’s youngest brother.

She recently celebrated her 94th birthday on August 12 at the old age home with her friends and family.

Her other grandson, Gareth Wittstock, was married two weeks ago to his long-term girlfriend Roisin Galvin, in Monaco. The whole family flew from South Africa to Monaco for his wedding. The young couple is also blessed with a two-year-old little girl.

Friends and family were in high spirits at the wedding and South African rugby legend,  Francois Pienaar, was one of the VIP guests.

Three years ago, Princess Charlene flew from Monaco to surprise her 91-year-old grandmother, Sylvia Wittstock, on her birthday, on August 12.

Benonians were recently treated to a special royal surprise visit by Prince Albert.
