Road safety made interesting

School pupils will be more aware on the road after the 10th annual SA Road Safety Economy Run.

The event was held at the Ebotse Links Country Club, in Rynfield, on August 22, in an effort to educate the public, especially youth, on road safety.

“This means driving a vehicle which is in a roadworthy condition, ensuring that the driver is alert at all times and, at the same time, obeying all traffic regulations, which results in a safe and economic trip,” said Carolyn Baldwin Botha, from Events and Pageants SA.

Pupils of Colin Mann Primary School, Brakpan High School and Willowmoore High School were in attendance and could participate in an eye-test and road safety rides, and could experience the “seatbelt convincer” (simulation of speeding seat with a seatbelt) and the “drunk buster goggles” (goggles that replicate drunk vision while driving).

The event also saw the crowning of Simone du Toit as Miss Road Safety 2015 and Anette Dempsey as Mrs Road Safety 2015.

Simone Du Toit was crowned Miss Road Safety at the 2015 SA Road Safety Economy Run on August 22.
