Enforcing the law in life and soccer

Const Martha Mojapelo, a policewoman at the Actonville SAPS, has done her station proud.

She is a member of the Gauteng SAPS provincial women’s football team, who won the South African Police Service Football Association’s Women’s National Soccer Tournament, in the Eastern Cape.

The Gauteng team defeated KwaZulu-Natal for the first time in six years, to lift the trophy.

The officer, who has been a member of the police service for seven years, plays right back for the Gauteng team.

She is the only woman from the Benoni Cluster who is a member of the team.

“I work with criminals, so I have to be fit at all times,” she said.

Mojapelo added that there have been times in her career in law enforcement when she has had to chase suspects and football has helped her in that regard.

Station commander of the Actonville SAPS Col Friedl Jonck said he is extremely proud of Mojabelo.

“She is works in an operational environment every day, so it is important that she keeps fit,” he said.

“She sets a good example to the other members to get active.”
