Robbers tie up four women

Four armed gunmen tied up four women, including a young child, when they entered a property in Mackenzie Park on August 31 at around 9.30am.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said the homeowner and her young daughter, her 78-year-old mother and a domestic worker were confronted by the men, who entered the Dewald Hattingh Road property as the domestic worker was busy at the washing line.

“They were all forced into the granny’s bedroom and their hands were tied with cable ties,” said Sekele.

The men told the homeowner that they had heard that she owned a catering company and were in search of money.

She said she did not have money.

The gunmen took the homeowner’s wedding ring and a bracelet and cash from the grandmother.

They also stole an Xbox, DVDs and a Blackberry cellphone.

Sekele said the robbers tried to steal a car from the garage, but fled when the alarm sounded.

The grandmother was assaulted during the incident; her condition is unknown.

A case of house robbery has been opened and no arrests had been made at the time of going to print.
