Everything was free

In only a few hours, thousands of items were handed out to roughly 3 500 people - free of charge.

The Northmead-based EnDeo Family Church held its second free bazaar on Saturday, August 29.

People stood in a queue from the early hours of the morning to collect the giveaways.

Event organiser Lien Joubert hailed the bazaar as a “huge success”.

She said about 3 500 people walked through the gates and items worth R550 000 were dished out in only a few hours.

The bazaar saw the donation of 3 500 bread rolls, 300kg of wors, 150kg of chicken and 2 000 glasses of cold drink (excluding canned cold drinks), 4 500 meals, clothes and books, to name just a few of the items given away.

Joubert said more emphasis was placed on making toiletries available this year.

She added that the church made a decision to provide more toothbrushes and toothpaste this year, after a man told organisers that he had not brushed his teeth for eight years.

One of the attendees this year, who did not want to be named, told the City Times she was “amazed” by the display of charity on the day.

Joubert said the church decided to host the event to live out their slogan: “To make a difference.”
