EMPD arrest suspected drug dealer on Elston Avenue

Undercover EMPD Tracing Unit officers arrested a man with drugs worth an estimated R5 000 on August 26.

The 34-year-old man was apprehended on Elston Avenue.

“The suspect was observed for some time and was seen exchanging stuff with people who approached him on the street,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

“Two of the EMPD Tracing Unit members, who were in civilian clothing, approached the man pretending to be buyers.

“Once it was established that the man was a drug dealer, uniformed members confronted the man and he was arrested.”

The man resisted arrests but was subdued by the officers.

The EMPD found 60 bags of nyaope and tik in the man’s possession.

Police charged the suspect with possession of illicit substances.

Meanwhile, the Benoni CPF is working with various stakeholders to address drug houses in Western Extension, which includes Elston Avenue.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said police regularly visit addresses provided to them as being problematic, and with the help of the EMPD, conduct drug raids.
