Woman arrested with drugs worth R10 000

A woman was arrested in Northmead with CAT worth an estimated R10 000 on Monday, August 24.

EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago said the 29-year-old female caught the attention of the EMPD Tracing Unit at The Falls Centre, in Northmead.

“The woman was approached and asked what her business was walking aimlessly around the centre, to which she responded by saying she was waiting for her boyfriend,” said Kgasago.

“On searching her black bag, the Metro Police found 11 ziplock bags with the drug CAT in them.”

She was arrested.

Kgasago said the woman led the EMPD to the Kempton Park CBD after claiming her Nigerian boyfriend, who supplies her with stock of the illicit substance, stays.

“Upon arrival at a car wash, which she claimed her boyfriend owns, it was found to be non-operational and deserted,” said Kgasago.

“She refused to provide any further information.

“Three cellphones found in the suspect’s possession were incessantly ringing and on answering them, the callers were requesting for the speedy delivery of their ‘fix’.”

Investigations are underway to locate the suspect’s boyfriend.

The woman was charged at the Benoni Police Station with being in possession of illicit substances.

She was expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrates Court on August 25.
