Rape victim gives up on police

A rape victim is still frustrated with the police, more than 16 months after she was raped by three of four intruders who entered her Northvilla home.

The men gained entry into the house, which is in a security complex, by lifting the electric fence with a plastic pole.

They tied up her husband and beat him over the head with a gun, before partly undressing the woman and raping her for over an hour.

Her husband survived the attack.

Benoni police took nine months to take a statement from the victim, after the City Times queried why they had not done so sooner.

The woman told the City Times she is frustrated with the Benoni police who have, according to her, not given her detailed feedback on the investigation.

“I give up with them, I get an SMS from them once a month – I don’t know what to do,” she said.

“I am just so frustrated.

“It is like it (the case) is just sitting there; they are doing absolutely nothing.

“I think it’s because they heard from you (the City Times) and they think the SMS will keep me quiet.”

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said the matter is under investigation.

Meanwhile, a task team of 11 police officers has been set up to “hunt” criminals who have committed violent crime within the Benoni police cluster.

At the time of going to print, it was unclear whether this rape case would be investigated by the task team.
