Judgement day for ‘dragging cops’

The eight former Daveyton policemen accused of killing Mozambican taxi driver Mido Macia, after he was dragged through the streets behind a police van, will hear their judgement today (August 25).

The North Gauteng High Court will hear Judge Bert Bam’s judgement after a four-week trial.

The prosecution asked for the accused’s conviction on a charge of murder on the basis of dolus eventualis, but the defence argued that the state had failed to prove either culpable homicide or murder and that the former policemen should be acquitted.

Macia died in a police holding cell on February 26, 2013, several hours after he had been dragged by the van.
