Benoni in the record books again

Benoni is home to yet another Guinness World Record.

The Benoni (Lakefield) and Boksburg branches of Re/Max Randgro set the record for the most pet food donated in one week.

They received the certificate on June 25.

The two branches collected 15 469,48kg of pet food from February 24 to March 3, 2014.

Marika Grové, broker manager for the Benoni and Boksburg branches, thanked the public for their contributions.

“The experience was very hard work, but it was great to see that we, here on the East Rand, can make such a big difference and that we can set world records,” said Grove.

“It just take someone to take the lead and people are more than willing to give and to help.

“The communities of Benoni and Boksburg are such giving people and we hear such beautiful stories that brought tears to our eyes.”

She said an example of this benevolence was a couple who had a birthday party and asked guests to bring along pet food as a present.

In November, the Benoni (Easterns) Tigers Action Cricket set the world record for “the longest marathon playing indoor cricket”.

The team played for 26 consecutive hours, at the Benoni Action Arena.
