Get educated on electricity usage with Ekurhuleni

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM), in partnership with the energy utility, Eskom, are on a drive to educate communities about the basics of safe electricity usage.

This is part of the National Electricity Safety Week that started on August 11 and will end on August 21.

Ekurhuleni residents will be educated on safe electricity usage and the risks of electricity theft, including meter tampering, by-passing and illegal connections.

EMM spokesperson Themba Gadebe said that a 10-year-old boy died, recently, due to illegal connections.

This is, unfortunately, a regular occurrence; innocent lives are lost as a consequence of the unsafe use of electricity.

“It is a fact that electricity is dangerous, particularly when connections are made irregularly,” added Gadebe.

“Ekurhuleni residents need to be educated about this reality, one fatality as a result of the unsafe use of electricity is one too many.”

The EMM, with Eskom officials, will be giving talks and distributing promotional items at Sozizwe Primary School, in Daveyton, on August 19.
