Plenty of support at ‘Lady and Tramp’ animal fund-raiser

Animal lovers from across the East Rand showed support for a worthy cause at the Animal Lovers Project Swing (Alps) fund-raiser, on Saturday, August 8.

The event was hosted by TLC Dog Hotel, for Alps, at the Benoni Country Club.

Alps is a non-profit organisation which provides veterinary services and sterilisation campaigns to township animals.

The organisation was founded by Cassandra Barbosa in 2012 and, since then, 500 dogs have been sterilized and close to 1 000 have been vaccinated.

Alps is run by volunteers who work from Thembelihle Primary School, in Etwatwa.

Even without a base centre, the organisation manages to help a number of needy animals.

Some of the services provided by Alps, to the Etwatwa community, include distributing 1 000kg of donated pet food, which is packaged and distributed as food parcels.

The organisation’s main support comes from animal lovers who generously make donations.

The event held was part of a fund-raising initiative, and 200 tickets were sold for the social evening.

The theme was “Lady and Tramp” and many guests were dressed in honour of the theme.

Guests were treated to a three-course meal and a fun-filled night with MC Paul Rotherham (Jacaranda FM DJ), and music by Jacques Terre’blanche (Idols 2003 finalist).
