Duplicate licence plate causes wrongly debited e-toll fees

A Rynfield resident has incurred about R200 in e-toll fees from a vehicle which has the same licence plate number as his wife's car.

The complainant, who did not want to be named, said an Opel Corsa bakkie has been photographed by e-toll gantry cameras with the same licence plate number — XTC 619 GP.

The man cautioned the motorist with the duplicate licence plate, saying: “You have been driving on the toll roads without an e-tag and are probably wondering why you have never received an account from Sanral.

“The reason is simple, the costs which you incur driving on the toll roads are debited to my account.

“… I suggest that you do something about it before you are caught — it is only a matter of time — because when you are caught, you could have a serious problem.”

The complainant suspects the motorist lives in Boksburg or Germiston.

The Rynfield resident said Sanral is aware of the issue and the vehicle is on their watch list.

Sanral was approached for comment but the City Times had not received any at the time of going to print.
