Boy (16) airlifted following Great North Road accident

A teenager was airlifted to hospital in a serious condition after he was knocked off his motorcycle on Great North Road this afternoon (August 6).

The accident, which involved the motorcycle and a light motor vehicle, happened on the corner of Great North and Deodar roads, towards Kempton Park.

“ER24 paramedics arrived on scene shortly before 3pm and found the victim (16-year-old male) lying in the road,” said ER24 JHB East spokesperson Glen Orritt.

“He was immediately assessed and found to have suffered multiple broken bones, and although conscious, was in a serious condition.”

A medical helicopter was called and landed on the opposite side of the main road,  on the corner of Great North Road and West Road.

The child was flown to Sandton Mediclinic.

Traffic was severely affected on Great North Road as both directions of the road was closed for 20 minutes.

Orritt thanked all services on scene for their assistance.
