Brothers shot in early morning Brentwood Park robbery

A 78-year-old mother woke up to find two armed men standing over her two sons, who were shot in the early hours of this morning (August 5).

The men were transported to hospital in a critical condition after being shot in a house robbery at the Mashoba Lodge, on Auret Road, Brentwood Park.

Benoni SAPS cluster spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said two brothers, one in his 40s and another in his 50s, were wounded when three men entered the home.

One of the brothers was shot in the head and the other in the upper and lower body.

They survived the shooting.

“According to the mother of the two victims, they went to bed at 9.30pm, and at around 3am, she heard a noise coming from the passage,” said Sekele.

Sekele said the mother stood up, opened her bedroom door and saw her sons lying on the floor with two armed men standing next to them.

She saw another robber standing at the front door.

The men made off with the woman’s handbag.

She said the robbers demanded money from the brothers, but did not receive any.

Sekele said the men gained entrance into the home by using a crowbar to open the front door.

A case of house robbery has been opened at the Benoni Police Station.

No arrests have been made.
