SAPS get to work

A crime prevention operation was conducted in Daveyton, Benoni and Crystal Park on July 30 and 31.

The operation was a joint undertaking by the SAPS members, EMPD, Department of Environmental Health, Department of Home Affairs and Immigration, Department of Labour, Department of Correctional Services and Film Publication Board (FPB).

During the operation in Daveyton, police confiscated two 9mm bullets, 20 illegal cigarettes, 23,89lt of illegal alcohol, six phendukas (a bowl with perforated bottom to sift water and soil from gold dust), eight phenduka stands and 56 steel balls. One person was arrested for contravention of a protection order and one SAPS J534 fine was issued,

In Benoni, police arrested 19 undocumented illegal immigrants, five immigrant minors were found to be employed illegally, 30 SAPS J534 fines were issued, one person was arrested for selling pornographic DVDs and 1 506 fake DVDs and two knives were confiscated.

In Crystal Park, a total of 18 businesses were closed due to illegal trading and fines were issued to the owners, while goods were confiscated. One secondhand dealer was closed for trading illegally, five shebeens were closed and 11 traffic fines were issued.

In Actonville and Wattville, police closed down six shebeens, four illegal business tradings, arrested nine illegal immigrants, one person in possession of dagga and corruption, one for absconding and two for assault GBH.

All the suspects arrested were charged and are expected to appear in court soon.
