Delay in Tobie’s case

The Daveyton Magistrates Court, on July 31, postponed the case against the man accused of beating a dog with a golf club.

Bokang Matjelo (39) will remain in custody until his next appearance, on August 21.

He is accused of striking his neighbour’s dog, Tobie (a female Jack Russell), in Daveyton, on March 2.

The suspect allegedly hit Tobie for no reason.

The dog’s eyeball had to be removed to prevent it from rotting and there was a 5cm piercing in her chest, which affected her mobility.

Tobie’s original owner, Peter Mnguni, relinquished his pet for fear that she would be beaten again.

The case was postponed as the charge sheet is still being reviewed by a judge after “procedural defects” appeared on it.
