Illegal mining equipment seized in police operation

Operation Fiela was conducted in Daveyton on July 30, in a joint undertaking between the Daveyton SAPS, detective service, EMPD and the Department of Home Affairs.

Daveyton SAPS spokesperson, St Constance Moalusi said two undocumented immigrants were arrested and one person was held for being in possession of a firearm used in a robbery.

“Police also confiscated six phendukas (bowl with perforated bottom to sift water and soil from gold dust), eight phenduka stands and 56 steel balls, and 19lt of illegal liquor was recovered,” added Moalusi.

All the suspects arrested will be detained at the Daveyton Police Station and will appear in the Daveyton Magistrates Court, soon.
