UPDATE: No arrests in Brentwood Park assault

Three robbers made off with R1 500 after assaulting a female resident of Brentwood Villas, in the early hours of July 30.

Benoni SAPS cluster spokesperson Tryna Maritz said the perpetrators entered the home by breaking open a window at the unit, within the security complex.

“The suspects gained entry through the window and went to the bedroom where the victim was asleep,” said Maritz.

“She woke up and tried to push the panic button, but one of the men threw her back onto the bed and assaulted her on the head with a crowbar.”

Emer-G-Med critical care assistance paramedic Kevin van der Walt said the elderly victim sustained a 4cm to 5cm laceration on her head and was apparently kicked by the intruders.

She sustained moderate injuries and was transported to the Netcare Linmed Hospital for further care.

The robbers made off with the cash, bank cards and a driver’s licence in the 3am incident.

The victim was asked for her car’s keys, which police discovered in the garden.

A case of house robbery has been opened at the Benoni Police Station and the matter is under investigation.

No arrests have been made.

It is unclear how the criminals gained entry into the complex.
