Caden leaves rehabilitation hospital

Caden Slabbert (8) will be leaving the Auckland Park Netcare Rehabilitation Hospital on Friday, July 31.

His father, Justin Slabbert, said Caden has made progress in his treatment, but he is still waiting for scheduled surgery to replace part of his skull.

“He is walking and talking and doing very well,” said Justin.

“He will leave the rehabilitation hospital, but he will be an out-patient, while still attending regular check-ups”.

Caden was struck by a brick while travelling on the N12, near The Glen Shopping Centre, on April 30.

Justin is not sure when his son will return to school.

“He has passed psychological assessments and maybe he will return to school next year,” he said.

No one has been arrested in connection with the brick-throwing incident and Justin said the police are a “joke” in dealing with the case.

“I have not been called about anything; the brick was taken in for DNA tests and I offered all the information I could,” said Justin.

The family has not been able to claim from the Roads Agency, because they were told no other car was involved and that it was not an accident.
