Culpable homicide case opened following fatal accident

A case of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving has been opened after an accident claimed the life of a motorcyclist, on July 21.

The accident occurred on the corner of Elston Avenue and Turvey Street, Western Extension, at 4pm.

“The motorcycle was travelling down Elston Avenue, while the truck was driving in the opposite direction on the same road,” said Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson.

“The truck driver alleges that, as he was turning right, he assumed the motorcyclist was still far off; when he turned he collided with the motorcyclist, who had the right of way.”

The motorcyclist (47) was declared dead on the scene by Emer-G-Med.

He died due to a head injury.

The medium-sized truck was carrying a passenger and the driver (27), neither of whom sustained injuries.
