Mother will spend quiet moment with son before machines are switched off

Sheila Erasmus will spend a few moments with her son's lifeless body this evening, before he is transported to a mortuary in Germiston.

Doctor’s are currently operating to remove organs from Michael Bester (13) body, which will be used to give life to people in need of organs.

Michael was involved in an accident on Benoni Road yesterday afternoon (July 23).

His mother told the City Times this afternoon the life support machines on her son are still switched on to allow Michael’s organs to function.

She said she will spend a few quiet moments alongside her child when doctors are done with the procedure.

Erasmus said her son’s lungs and heart cannot be used, to due the damage sustained in the collision.

A staff member at Belvedere School said Michael will be missed.

“Michael was one of those children who came into the school who crept into our hearts,” said the school’s head of department (HOD) for educational guidance, Werner Prinsloo.

“He was a very gentle, placid boy with good manners.

“He was a joy to see and to work with.”

Prinsloo said the school’s four rugby teams, who will be playing in their respective league finals on July 25, will wear black arm bands to pay tribute to their peer.
