Benoni High to host Highland gathering

Benoni High School will host the annual South African Pipe Band and Highland Dancing Championships, on Saturday (July 25).

A total of 24 pipe bands and a large group of Highland dancers from around the country are expected to compete in the championships.

The school has two bands competing this year; namely the Novice Juvenile Pipe Band and the Benoni McTalla Pipe Band.

Benoni High will welcome back past-pupil Gary Potter, who is one of two international judges in the pipe band category.

The event starts at 10am, with the massed bands expected to play at approximately 4pm.

Adults will be charged R30 to enter the school grounds, while pensioners and children will pay R10.

Meanwhile, the Benoni High School Pipe Band was the winner of the KwaZulu-Natal Regional Pipe Band Championships, on May 2, in Amanzimtoti, and the Gauteng Regional Championships, on July 11.
