Charges against motorist withdrawn
The man who was arrested following a fatal accident in Rynfield on July 8 has been released from custody.
The driver of a Volvo was arrested after a head-on collision with a Fiat Uno, at the intersection of Uys Street and Hull Road.
John Smith-Rainsford (62) died inside the Uno.
The driver of the Volvo appeared in the Benoni Magistrates Court on July 10, on a charge of culpable homicide.
The Benoni SAPS said the charges were withdrawn in court as police are still waiting for the results of a blood test which was taken from the motorist.
He may be summonsed to appear in court once the results have been released.
Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson, told the City Times on the evening of the accident that the man was arrested after the accident and taken to the Metro Police head office for the north region, in Tembisa, for blood tests.
The tests will determine whether the man was over the legal alcohol limit when hewas driving.
