Keep your hair and nails beautiful – even in winter

Winter does not have to be dull and dry when you can have colourful nails and well maintained hair.

The Xenon, hair, nails and beauty salon, in Northmead, offers women beauty treatments.

Hair

Tanya Bester took up the beauty challenge and decided to colour her hair a lighter shade of blonde.

Sunel Stephens, who runs Suzi Q (a section of the salon, mixed two colours, copper and beige, to get a beige-copper tone.

Tanya’s roots are darker than her ends, so Sunel had to apply a bleach using foil to lift the roots and lighten them.

After Tanya’s roots were bleached, her hair was left to rest for 10 to 20 minutes.

The beige-copper toner was applied, and then washed off, and a moisturising treatment was applied.

The hair was then blow dried and styled with curls.

Nails

For the nails, Judith Boucher conducted the treatment – it can take 40 minutes to an hour, depending on the state of a client’s nails.

Judith removed nail polish from my nails, filed them into shape and buffed them to remove natural oils.

She then glued clear tips onto my nails, which were later cut to my preferred length.

A primer was applied to the nails, to prevent the products applied from lifting from the nail.

An acrylic gel was applied and the nails were placed under a UV light to dry.

A UV light is essential for gel products, because the light hardens the product into place.

I chose a creme brulee, nude, gel colour which was applied to my nails.

Judith applied two coats of the colour.

When the nails were dry, she applied real dried flowers and glitter to both index fingers – to add a colourful detail.

An acrylic gel was applied to seal the gel product, and a top coat was applied to add some shine.

Tanya was pleased with the new colour of her hair, and I was certainly satisfied with my transformed nails. ZM
