Four arrested for possession of dog poison, housebreaking implements

Four Mozambican men, aged between 21 and 38, were arrested for being in possession of housebreaking and car breaking tools, as well as poison.

The men were apprehended in the early morning hours of Monday (July 6).

“Crystal Park police received a tip-off from the Community Policing Forum (CPF) members about a suspicious white Toyota Corolla on the corner of Falcon Street and Oriole Crescent,” said Crystal Park media liaison officer Tryna Maritz.

“The CPF members followed the vehicle and members of the North Rand Flying Squad managed to stop the vehicle on Du Randt Road.”

Police searched the men and the vehicle and confiscated 20 different lock nuts, Two-step poison, three pairs of gloves, a wheel spanner and various car and housebreaking tools.

In Crystal Park 15 dogs have been poised and residents have had their homes and cars broken into since March.

Maritz said there have been no incidents of dog poising reported recently, there had been a spike between February and April.

The suspects were detained at the Crystal Park Police Station.

They are charged with possession of housebreaking and car breaking implements and possession of poison.

They were expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrates Court on July 7.
